Complaints against JU VC submitted to ministry

A delegate group submitting complaints against JU VC Prof Farzana Islam The complaints against Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Farzana Islam has been submitted to the Education Ministry.
A group of four teachers has submitted the complaints to Dr Abdul Aleem, the Private Secretary to Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Friday (Nov 8) night.
The delegate group of protesters is comprise of Prof Dr Md Rezaul Karim Talukdar from Dept of Bengali, Prof Dr Md Fazlul Karim Patowary from Dept of Statistics, Prof Dr Abu Sayeed Md Mostafijur Rahman from Dept of Computer Science and Engineering, Prof Dr Khandakar Hasan Mahmud from Dept of Geography and Environment.
After submitting complaints, Prof Rezaul said, “We strongly believe that the protest against the corrupt VC is about to bring a change.”
“Though we don’t expect education ministry to stand by the protesters, we are hoping for positive outcome,” he added.
Earlier, on Wednesday (Nov 6), Deputy Minister of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury told media that though the specific complaints have been asked to submit by Nov 8, nothing has come forth.
He assured, “If any complaint is submitted, the ministry will take necessary legal actions after probe.”
The students at JU have been demonstrating on campus since August 23, demanding the removal of VC Prof Farzana Islam for her alleged involvement in misappropriation of around Tk16 million from a Tk14.45 billion development project, in collusion with Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders.
Over the past week, both the education minister and the deputy education minister had urged the protesting teachers and students to submit all their accusations in written form to the authorities, saying steps would be taken against the VC if they were proved.
Defying JU authorities’ decision to close the university indefinitely and ban mass gatherings on campus, the students and teachers have also been staging sit-in protests in front of the VC’s residence for the past five days.
Although Jahangirnagar University has been closed sine die, protesters continued demonstrations demanding removal of Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam and set out to submit the evidence of corruption to the Education Ministry last night.
