On Tuesday (Sept 3), Dhaka Cyber Tribunal has rejected the lawsuit filed against Mufti Gias Uddin At-Taheri under the Digital Security Act.

The case was filed against him alleging defamation of Islam and hurting people's sentiment through his controversial speeches and remarks and jikir (devotional act in Islam in which short phrases or prayers are repeatedly recited).

Lawyer Ibrahim Khalil, a member of the Dhaka Bar Association, filed the case with Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Ash-Shams Jaglul Hussein under sections 28 and 31 of the Act on Sunday (Sept 1).

Mufti Taheri, the founder of Dawate Islami Bangladesh, has recently become popular on social media platforms including Facebook and YouTube for performing controversial jikir.
