Two police personnel have been withdrawn from a police station in Dhaka for harassing a man by implicating him in a case.
The victim identified as Md Kamal Hossain is a motor mechanic by profession.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jakaria and ASI Alamgir of Mohammadpur police station were withdrawn from the police station and attached to the office of deputy commissioner on allegations of holding a person mistakenly instead of the real accused and harassing him, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon zone) Ohidul Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said on Monday (Sept 3).
"We are also investigating the matter. More punitive action will be taken against the police officials if they are found guilty," he added.
Family of the victim said ASI Jakaria detained Kamal at Shyamoli in the capital on August 30 in connection with a drug case filed in 2009.
The police officers took him to the police station as he found similarity in the names of Kamal and his father.
However, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station released Kamal, who had no general diary filed against him till now, on the same day as they found nothing wrong with him after primary investigation.
Later on, ASI Alamgir started harassing him and demanded bribe from Kamal, threatening him with dire consequences.
The victim informed the matter to a journalist who took him to DMP Joint Commissioner Sheikh Nazmul Alam.
The police officer took initiatives to look into the matter.
