Referring to video messages on social media by quota reformists, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman has likened them to militants.
The remarks came on Sunday, while he was briefing the media at his offices.
“The quota reformists announce their programmes on Facebook live, just like militants,” he said.
The vice-chancellor said his observation was based on ‘several specific incidents’.
“It appears that an evil quarter is behind all of it. For instance, my colleagues showed me a live video. I found the statements inciting just like the way the Taliban or Boko Haram does it,” he said.
The vice-chancellor said that the speaker in the video he saw at one point said ‘we don’t fear death.’
“This is extreme and these kinds of videos are being posted in every two to three hours,” he said.
Akhataruzzaman claimed that a quarter was trying to use the movement for political purposes.
“The phone call from London on opening efforts to organise the movement proves that vested quarters are on to reap the benefit,” he said in a clear reference to the leaked audio clip of a conversation between BNP acting chief Tarique Rahman and a Dhaka University teacher.
