Railway Police produced Mohammad Erfanur Rahman, senior assistant engineer of Bangladesh Railway, before court on Wednesday, said court Inspector, Abdul Hai.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), arrested the senior railway official when he was allegedly taking bribe from the stationmaster’s room at Kulaura Railway Station on Tuesday.
A five-member team of ACC arrested Erfanur at 9:30pm on Tuesday, led by Deputy Director, Moloy Shaha, of ACC Habiganj office.
Erfanur was caught red-handed while accepting Tk. 10,000 from Abul Hossain, a railway staff (wayman).
ACC sources say that after joining Kulaura section five years ago, Erfanur became deeply involved in graft. He exploited the weakness of subordinates and extorted money from them, added the sources.
The arrested officer was handed over to the station police yesterday, said Abdul Malek, OC of Kulaura Railway Police Station.
The Assistant Director ACC of Habiganj-Moulvibazar joint office, Nurul Huda, filed a case against Erfanul over the issue, he added.
