Representational ImageThe Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 40 members of a doping ring in Dhaka.
The arrests were made on Wednesday (Jul 31) after conducting several drives at different areas in the capital, DMP media spokesperson Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten told the media on Thursday (Aug 1).
“Dhaka south division has arrested 19 people, West division arrested seven people while crime scene department arrested 14 people of a doping gang in the last 24-hour,” he said.
Baten said that upon primary questioning, the miscreants revealed that with the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, these gang members target people in the markets, bus stands, railway stations and other public areas and try to feed them food in which they have slipped drugs.
“Once the target consumes the food and lose consciousness, they take the valuables and run away,” he said.
The DMP spokesperson added that tablets used to render people unconscious, dates, foods and juice were seized during the raids.
