DIG SM Manir-uz-Zaman, the former chief of police’s Chattogram Range, OC Liakat Ali of Cox’s Bazar’s Ramu and the investigating officer have been ordered to respond by two weeks.
The order came on Tuesday (Jul 3) following a petition citing a Jun 11 report by a national daily, which said that suspect GM Sarwar’s name was dropped from the chargesheet upon DIG Zaman’s intervention.
It said that Dhaka-based businessman Sarwar was arrested from a hotel in Cox’s Bazar in December 2011 in possession of methamphetamine Yaba tablets.
The report said that Cox’s Bazar’s Ramu police station OC Liakat Ali alleged that the suspect’s name was dropped from the chargesheet upon the senior police official Zaman’s intervention.
On Monday (Jul 2), the home ministry issued an order transferring DIG Zaman from the Chattogram Range as a training reserve with the headquarters in Dhaka.
