HC summons Bangladesh Railway chief

Director General of Bangladesh Railway Amazad HossainThe High Court (HC) has summoned the Bangladesh Railway chief over the Tk 2 million compensation to the family of Jihad, who died after falling into unprotected well shaft in 2014.
Director General Amazad Hossain has been ordered to appear before the court on Aug 14.
The bench of Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali gave the order on Tuesday hearing a plea on the matter by one Abdul Halim, a lawyer and chairman of Children Charity Foundation.
"The authorities have been served with several legal notices to pay the compensation, but it did not respond. The court’s order came in response to a plea seeking to level contempt charges,” Halim told the media after the hearing.
On on Dec 26, 2014, Jihad fell into an unprotected well shaft while playing with other children in Shahjahanpur Railway Colony. The 4-year-old boy was rescued after 23 hours, but was declared dead by the doctors.
Following a writ by Halim, the HC on Feb 18, 2016, delivered its judgment after a primary hearing saying the concerned authorities would have to compensate the family.
Over three years later, Jihad’s family is yet to be compensated and On Mar 1 this year, the court issued a contempt rule seeking explanation from the railway boss, the fire service chief and one of its director.
Tuesday’s development of summoning Railway DG Hossain came as they did not respond to the rule.
