Representational imageYet another lynching has been reported after angry mob in Dhaka beaten a man to death on suspicion of theft amid a string similar incident across the country which left at least eight people killed in a week.
The incident was reported on Thursday (Jul 25) at an apparel factory at the city’s West Hazipara area.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Delwar, said police.
"Workers and employees of the factory have beaten up the man on suspicion of theft along with the factory's security guard 28-year-old Moyeen.”
On information, police rescued Delwar and sent him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead.
"Moyeen is currently under police custody. He was given primary treatment at DMCH. An investigation has been launched," said the police officer.
Eight people have been killed in mob attacks across the country after false rumours about child abductions spread online.
None of the victims were involved in child abduction, Inspector General of Police Javed Patwary told the media on Wednesday.
Taslima Begum Renu, a single mother of two children aged 11 and 4, was among the eight people killed. More than 30 people were reportedly attacked over the rumours.
