General Secretary of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, Rana Dasgupta, has said that Priya Saha’s complaint to US President Donald Trump about the persecution of minorities in Bangladesh is her own opinion and the responsibility of the comment is solely hers.
"Priya Saha’s comment is her own, the organisation will not take any responsibility for it," said Rana Dasgupta at a media call on Thursday (Jul 25).
“Priya Saha has mentioned in her complaint that 37 million people from the Buddhist-Hindu and Christian community have ‘disappeared’; she will be able to elaborate what she actually meant by the word; if she meant that people have been taken away then we oppose this vehemently,” he said.
He added that in independent Bangladesh, torture and persecution of minorities still exist though in the last ten years there has been notable progress in the preservation of rights of minority communities.
He stated that the vested property act, formulated at the initiative of Sheikh Hasina, has not been implemented as yet.
“The attack on secular people between 2011 and 2016 cannot be forgotten,” he added.
