Terror activity monitoring group SITE Intelligence reports that Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for planting bombs at two police check-points in Dhaka.

On Wednesday (Jul 24), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) bomb disposal unit deactivated two bombs at Dhaka’s Khamarbari and Paltan area.

The bombs were left near the traffic police boxes at Khamarbari and UBL crossing at Paltan.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwary said that they still have to run forensics of the contents of the bomb.

“If required we’ll run DNA tests too but we’ll need some time,” he said.

He said that the militants might be active but details can be provided after a thorough probe.

Several witnesses near the areas said that during controlled explosion, both objects created enormous noise with splinters spreading wide.
