Thousands of students who got the chance to be admitted to Viqarunnisa School & College are in a predicament as the college has four branches across the city. Students can choose the college online, not the campus.
Guardians complain that they applied to have their wards admitted to the campus closest to their residence but the college authority is not acceding to their requests.
On Thursday, 28 June, indignant guardians and students protested in front of the Bailey Road main campus.
It’s believed that students who have come from other institutions are not getting the chance to be admitted to the main campus in Bailey Road. Instead, they are being sent to the Azimpur and Banshundhara campus.
Guradians allege that they encountered discourteous behaviour when they went to talk about admission related issues.
Talking on the matter, acting principal of the institution, Naznin Ferdous, said: “the online admission process does not specify the campus once a student is admitted; the college has four branches, we cannot admit everyone to the Bailey Road one.”
The acting principal refuted allegations of impolite behavior by college staff.
Meanwhile, president of the guardians’ forum, Ziaul Kabir Dulu, said: “we protest the uncivil manner towards parents and guardians.”
Senior systems analyst of Dhaka Education Board, Monzurul Kabir, said: “the admission was done online according to the names of the college and now the college authority has the right to choose the campus for students.”
