DU to introduce written section in entrance exam

University of DhakaDhaka University (DU) authorities have for the first time ever, will introduce a written section in the much competitive entrance exams for the undergraduate programs.
Till now the entire test used to be comprised of MCQ questions. However, from now onwards, the written section will carry 40 marks for which students will get 50 minutes and the MCQs will carry 60 marks for which they’ll 40 minutes.
The deans of different departments at the university said that the written section will comprise of creative questions as higher secondary students are familiar with the pattern.
According to them as long as they have a good grasp of their textbooks, they should be able to answer the section.
“We’ll set the questions so that the students can answer them within the designated 50 minutes,” Social Sciences Dean Professor Dr Sadeqa Halim told Bangla Tribune.
“We will assess their writing skills and whether they are able to present constructive argument on language,” she said.
Faculty of Business Studies Dean Shibli Rubaiyatul Islam said that the written section will determine whether the students have a solid grasp of what they are writing.
Students, aspiring to be a part of DU are understandably worried and at the same time curious about the new introduction.
“There will be a written section in the entrance exam that we are absolutely unfamiliar with,” said one such student Zillur Rahman.
Calling on the students to take the exams without any worries, DU Proctor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani said, “Our students are very talented. I would suggest that they sit for the exams not with fear but with joy.”
He told Bangla Tribune that the questions have set with inputs from teachers from all departments and that a sub-committee comprising of the deans have already been formed who are working with the question structure.
