File photo of Hallmark Group chairman Jasmine IslamA court in Dhaka has sent Hallmark Group chairman Jasmine Islam to jail in a case filed over of embezzling Tk 858.7 million of Janata Bank through fake letter of credit (LC).
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge KM Imrul Qayes handed the order on Sunday (Jul 14) after Jasmine surrendered in it and pleaded for bail.
After hearing the case, the court rejected the bail plea and ordered to send her to jail, prosecution lawyer Jahangir Alam told Bangla Tribune.
On Jun 16, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court had cancelled a bail granted to Jasmine by the High Court and ordered her to surrender before lower court within four weeks.
The High Court on Mar 10 allowed Jasmine bail, prompting ACC to file plea against it with the apex court.
On Nov 1, 2016, the graft watchdog sued Jasmine and 10 others with the capital's Motijheel police on charges of embezzling the money from the state-owned bank.
