Willes Little Flower School takes more than Tk 5.4 million from students in one year as electricity and generator bill. However, the expenditure in these two areas is less than Tk 2 million. Reportedly, more than Tk 3.4 million is being embezzled.
The school has more than 9,000 students from pre-primary to class twelve and this year, each student had to pay Tk 300 for power and Tk 300 for generator, which comes to Tk 5.4 million.
Also, money is taken for cultural events, sports and milad. If any guardian fails to pay tuition on time, Tk 100 fine is imposed.
“The bigger class rooms only have four fans; children often have to attend classes in unbearable heat. There is no AC but the money for power is being taken,” a guardian complaints.
Some guardians also took their children elsewhere faced with uncivil behaviour from teachers.
Since there is no load-shedding, the generator is hardly used though the fee for the generator is more than Tk 2.7 million.
A fee of Tk 300 is also taken from students to print the yearbook. In this regard, the earning is more than Tk 2.7 million. Guardians say that the cost for printing yearbook should not exceed Tk 600,000.
In addition, there are countless other fees, for sports, IT, mark sheet, poor fund, youth red cross, library, laboratory, children with special needs etc.
For taking additional fees over the government fixed fees, the Anti Corruption Commission, ACC, gave letters to Willes Little Flower School in 2017; later, Wills gave back the excess fees taken.
Willes Little Flower is also accused of running a coaching trade. The list sent by ACC of 111 schools which are engaged in unethical coaching also includes the school.
