FILE PHOTOA Dhaka court has allowed Anti-Corruption Commission to quiz suspended deputy inspector general of police Mizanur Rahman at jail gate in a case filed over bribing an ACC top official.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Dhaka’s Senior Special Judges’ Court directed the graft watchdog to interrogate Mizan on Jul 15 after ACC Director Sheikh Md Fanafillah pealed for courts’ permission on Wednesday (Jul 10).
Earlier Jul 2, the same court sent Mizan to jail rejecting his bail plea in a case filed by the ACC on charges of amassing illegal wealth.
On Jul 1, police arrested senior police officer following a High Court order that came after it turned down his petition for anticipatory bail.
On Jun 30, the suspended police officer filed the petition seeking anticipatory bail on charges pressed by the graft watchdog.
On Jun 24, the ACC filed the case against Mizan on charges of amassing over Tk 30 million beyond his known source of income.
Meantime, Mizan alleged that ACC’s enquiry officer Khandaker Enamul Basir, now suspended, took Tk 4 million bribe with a false promise of exonerating him of all charges.
The police official came under the scanner in January last year when he was accused of forcibly marrying and torturing a woman. He was soon withdrawn from his post as the additional commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
