The food ministry-formed expert panel to test packaged pasteurised milk available in the market has been given another month by the High Court to file its findings.
In late May, the court ordered the formation of the panel and gave a deadline of one month after an ICDDR,B report said that 75 percent of the milk available in the market were unsafe for direct consumption.
On Tuesday, the food ministry pleaded for another six months, but the court gave a month.
On May 21, the court ordered the government to form the panel and issued a rule asking why the concerned authorities’ failure to ensure safe food will not be declared illegal.
Secretaries to the ministries of food and health, chief of the health directorate, BSTI director general, the ICDDR,B and the Bangladesh police chief had been ordered to respond by four weeks.
