A man has been detained with eight gold bars weighing 800 grams at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The gold has a street value of Tk 4 million.
Customs authorities detained Selim who landed at Dhaka from Kuala Lumpur in the early hours of Sunday (Jun 2), confirmed Customs Detective Department Director General Saidul Islam.
Sources said that the customs detectives started monitoring the passengers of flight BG-0087 after receiving a tip off that one off the passengers were carrying illegal gold.
The scanners found traces of the metals on Selim when he was searched. After interrogation, he admitted to carrying the gold in his rectum.
The detectives said that legal steps are being taken against him.
