Couple critically burnt in ‘TV explosion’

A couple has sustained critical burn injuries in a fire, which police said originated from an explosion of a television at their residence in Dhaka.
The incident was reported from the capital’s Agargaon area on Thursday (May 16), police said.
The victims have been identified as Mukhter Hossain, 38, owner of a pharmacy, and his wife Salma Begum, 28.
Local Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police OC Jane Alam Munshi told Bangla Tribune that the fire broke out after a television exploded in their house in Pashchim Agargaon around 4:00pm.
Victim Mukhter said he had knowledge on how the incident happened as he was speeding while his wife Salma said she was in the kitchen to prepare foods for ifatr.
All of a sudden, the exposition occurred and both of them sustained burns injuries, she added.
The couple’s only son, Shafin, 6, however, escaped the fire as he was out of the house.
The couple underwent treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with Mukter suffering 97 percent and Salma sustaining 95 percent burns, Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, told Bangla Tribune.
