Three ‘drug peddlers’ killed in ‘shootouts’

ShootoutAs many as three people have been killed in ‘shootouts’ with security forces on Friday amid anti-drug raids across the country.
The incidents were reported from the northern districts Thakurgaon, Rangpur and Dinajpur.
Police claimed all of the victims were ‘drug-dealers’.
A suspected drug peddler was killed in a so-called gunfight between his cohorts and police at Bhadreshwaribandar in Ranishankoil Upazila early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Shamim Hossain, 42, who was named in several drug cases, police said.
Tipped off, a team of police raided the area in the early hours on Friday.
Sensing the presence of the lawmen, the ‘drug dealers’ fired gunshots on police forcing them to fire back in self-defence, leaving Shamim dead on the spot, said Abdul Mannan, the OC of Ranishankoil Police Station.
One of Shamim’s aides and two policemen were also injured in the incident, the OC said.
The law enforcers recovered 300 pieces of Yaba tablets from the spot.
Another alleged drug offender Abu Musa alias Bishkhali, 27, was killed in a ‘gun battle’ at Kukrul neighbourhood in Rangpur metropolitan area on Friday, our Rangpur correspondent quoted police.
Based on information, police dispatched to the area where a group of ‘drug traders’ opened fire on police sensing their presence. Police replied with bullets. Musa was caught in the crossfire, said the Additional Superintendent of Police Saifur Rahman.
He was wanted for eleven narcotics cases with police, he also added.
Police found 102 Yaba pills, 47 bottles of contraband Phensidyl and a gun from the scene.
Police found a bullet-hit body at the Kharipara area of Dinajpur town on Friday, according to our local correspondent.
The identity of the victim couldn’t be clear immediately.
The person was a suspected drug dealer who died in a ‘shootout’ between two drug trader outfits, claimed the OC of Dinajpur Police Station Redwanur Rahim.
Police seized 100 bottles of Phensidyl, firearm and a sharp weapon from the spot.
