The hearing for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail petition in Cumilla arson case has been deferred until Sunday, June 10.
A bench, led by Justice Md Shawkat Hossain and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman, passed the order on Thursday after taking the hearing from both sides.
Seven people were killed and 25-26 others injured after a bus was torched at Jagmohanpour in Comilla's Chouddagram Upazila on February 2, 2015.
The following day, police lodged two cases -- one for murder and another under the Special Powers Act – with the Chouddagram Police Station.
This year, on May 28, Khaleda Zia appealed for bail, which the presiding court dismissed, setting Aug 8 next as the next hearing date.
However, on Tuesday, June 5, Khaleda Zia moved to High Court against that order, asking for bail.
The BNP chief has been incarcerated in the old jailhouse on Nazimuddin Road since Feb 8 after a special court sentenced her to five years in prison for Zia orphanage trust case corruption.
