The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has released Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker hours after detaining him on Wednesday.
He was whisked away from the capital’s Shahbagh around 4pm ahead a planned rally in protest of the ‘extra-judicial killings’ during the ongoing crackdown on drugs.
Sarker was taken to the RAB-3 offices in Dhaka’s Moghbazar and released around 11pm.
“He was detained on charges of organising an unathourised rally in Shahbagh and has been released after questioning,” RAB-3 chief Lt Col Emranul Hasan told Bangla Tribune.
According to Ganajagaran Mancha activists, police and RAB intervened after they had gathered at Shahbag for the planned rally.
Amid law-enforcers charging batons to disperse the demonstrators, the RAB whisked away Sarker in a car, according to witness.
