In the backdrop of a series of recent fire incidents, authorities have declared the capital’s Bangabazar Complex market as highly risky.
On Monday (Apr 1), Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence has put up a banner with the warning message on the building.
“Everyone is urged to exercise caution as the Banglabazar Complex is highly risky in terms of fire safety,” reads the message.
Similar warnings will be hoisted on risky buildings and structures in the capital, said fire service officials.
“We have started the initiative with Bangabazar market. We will continue to do so for all the buildings we have found risky in our survey and for all other structures which lacks measures to deal with fire risks,” Fire Service and Civil Defence Director (Operation and Maintenance) Major AKM Shakil Newaz said.
All structures including markets, residential and industrial buildings will fall under this initiative, he added.
“Fire Service and Civil Defence prioritizes ensuring security of the people and thus this initiative will continue,” said the fire service official.
