The fire accident in Banani has jolted city development agency, RAJUK, which has already begun gathering information on fire extinguishing facilities of buildings that have more than ten stories.
Under RAJUK, 24 teams are gathering information over an area of 1528 square kilometer in eight zones.
However, these teams do not have any fire security experts.
Reportedly, housing and accommodation minister, SM Rezaul Karim, has given directions, which include: gathering detailed information about owner of building, developer, RAJUK approved plan, proper parking etc.
At the same time, information needs to be gathered to ensure if the buildings have enough fire safety equipment or not.
RAJUK is carrying out the work with its teams though no fire expert was given appointment.
Entrusted with the inspection work, RAJUK director, Khondokar Oliur Rahman, says, “We are using our own manpower to gather details; we are trying to find if the buildings have any flaws against the approved plans and if they have the safety measures as mentioned in the designs.”
