Sentenced to up to 17 years in jail, BNP chief Khaleda Zia has been kept at old Dhaka Central Jail since February 2018.Incarcerated BNP chief Khaleda Zia will be transferred to the new prisons in Keraniganj from the old jailhouse “whenever necessary”, says the home minister.
The former prime minister, sentenced to up to 17 years, is being kept as the lone inmate at the old Dhaka Central Jail on Nazimuddin Road since her conviction in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case in February 2018.
“The facility where she has been kept will be turned into a museum, so it would not be possible to keep anyone there once the work begins,” Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said on Wednesday (Mar 27) during an event at Savar's Ashulia.
He said that they were weighing the option to transfer Khaleda to the new prisons in Keraniganj and that they can “do it any time whenever necessary” but did not spell out any date for it.
