Involvement of police personnel in various illegal activities and immoral dealings is being increasingly reported in the media recently.
Incidents have been reported where police allegedly picked up innocent citizens to demand extortion money, threatening to file fake case against them or to put them in fake crossfire.
Moreover, allegations are being raised everyday from different strata of society of being harassed at the hands of police.
But people do not know where to complain when law enforcers themselves are breaking the law.
Contacted over the issue, Additional Inspector General of Police (Media) at the Police headquarters, Sohely Ferdous said there are several ways to file any complaint against any kind of police harassment. There is a separate cell ‘IGP Complain Cell’ at the police headquarters in the capital.
“The Cell has two mobile phone numbers – 01769693535 and 01769693536 – to submit complaints directly against any unethical or unprofessional activities of police members. Any citizen of the country can call directly or send SMS to these two numbers,” she added.
She also said one can write to the IGP Complain Cell also. The Cell was introduced on November 13, 2017. In addition, there is an e-mail address ([email protected]) where written complain can be submitted against police.
Anybody can call to ‘999’ number also, to file any complain against police.
Sohely said, “The IGP Cell was introduced to bring back transparency in the force through containing corruption, irregularities and involvement of police members in crimes.”
