Agitated locals blocked roads at the capitals Uttara alleging that a 7-year-old child was killed.
Hundreds of people took position in front of Uttara’s Rajlakhkhi Market with the child’s body and protested there for three hours before leaving the road upon assurance from the police that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
According to the protesters, the victim, identified as Rifat was flying kites on Monday (Feb 25) afternoon when one Ajit Kumar Basak killed the boy and dumped the body in a water storage tank.
They allege that the police didn’t arrest the accused as he is an influential owner of a building.
The victim’s father, who is a mason by profession, alleged, “We informed the police and demanded the accused to be arrested but the police did not pay heed to our complaints.”
Dakshinkhan Police Inspector Shafiqul Gani told Bangla Tribune, “Police and locals traced the body after hours of searching on Tuesday (Feb 26) night.”
The body was later sent to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy, added Gani.
A case over the incident was started on Tuesday night naming Basak, 55, and her wife Rekha Rani Basak, 45, as accused.
The body of Rifat was later buried after protesters moved from the roads.
Rejecting the allegations made by the victim’s family, Dakshinkhan zone police Additional Deputy Commissioner Nurul Alam said, “A case was started on Tuesday night over the incident and police are hunting down the accused.”
