The mass media of the country must focus on people’s welfare, said Prof Emeritus Anisuzzaman.
“The media must move forward for the welfare of people. It must play a role to highlight the due honour of our liberation war,” he said on Wednesday (Feb 27) during a discussion meeting titled ‘Liberation War and Mass Media’ at the capital’s National Press Club.
“We must look into whether the mass media is moving away from the spirit of liberation war,” he added.
Veteran Journalist Kamal Lohani said, “The news media must enjoy freedom. We spoke against Ayub Khan and Yahya Khan. But, today’s journalists’ forums cannot speak freely. The prime minister now rebuffs journalists and they keep their heads down.”
Workers’ Party chief Rashed Khan Menon said, “There is debate about the use of ICT Act.”
Daily Manabzamin’s Editor in Chief Matiur Rahman Chowdhury said, “During Ershad’s regime three news outlets were shut down because of articles I wrote. But, to implement the spirit of Independence, the news media must be free.”
