A High Court petition has been lodged challenging the legality of the announcement of Dhaka City Corporation polls schedule and seeking a stay order on it.
The writ, filed on Wednesday (Jan 30), challenged the city corporation polls on grounds that the boundaries for the newly added wards have not been finalized yet.
The writ will be produced in front of the HC bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Shohrowardi on Wednesday and likely to be heard on Sunday (Feb 3), Supreme Court lawyer Dr Yunus Ali Akand who filed the writ told Bangla Tribune.
Seven people including the chief election commissioner, election commission secretary, the local government secretary have been made respondent to the writ.
The petition read that previously another petition was filed with the HC regarding the boundaries of the Dhaka North and South City Corporations. As the court did not give an order on it, the commission announced two polls schedule for the polls in Jan 22 which is against the law and constitution.
