In the span of a few days, the police recovered two bullet-ridden bodies from Savar and Jhalakathi. Both persons were accused in rape cases.
Interestingly the bodies had paper declaration stuck to them with the words ‘rapists’. The police have not been able to arrest anyone in this regard but the killings plus the notes have intrigued society.
Police say that both deaths were unnatural and similar in pattern. The two killed are Ripon in Savar and Sajal in Jhalakathi.
Ripon’s wife, Rikta says that on Jan 11, her husband was taken by some people claiming to be from DB and five days later, his dead body was found.
OC of Savar (north) DB, AFM Sayeed, has refuted allegation of a pick-up.
Meanwhile, acting OC of Savar Model thana has said that they do not know who was behind the killing.
Reportedly, Ripon and four others accosted a woman garment worker and raped her. The woman died in hospital while undergoing treatment.
The other rapist, Sajal, disappeared from his father in law’s house in Badda and later, his body was found in Jhalakathi.
Sajal was accused of raping a madrasa student.
Human rights worker and adviser to the caretaker government, Sultana Kamal, told Bangla Tribune: “it’s the duty of the law enforcers to investigate this, otherwise, suspicion will take form in the minds of the people.”
