A court in Dhaka has ordered to confiscate assets of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) official Abzal Hossain.
The order by the Dhaka Special Session Judge Court came on Tuesday (Jan 22) after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) moved to it seeking an order to confiscate all moveable and immovable wealth acquired by Hossain, said ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
The anti-graft watchdog opened an inquiry after it suspected Hossain, an accountant of DGHS, amassed a huge amount of wealth illegally following media reports.
According to ACC, Abzal, whose monthly salary stands at Tk 30,000, owns a land plot in the capital's Uttara. Her wife owns five other plots there. He also bought a house in Sydney spending over $200,000.
ACC investigation found that Hossain also owns a total of 24 plots and flats at different parts of the country.
The couple in their income tax documents showed they have Tk 120 million worth of wealth.
Meanwhile, the DGHS has suspended Hossain.
A ban on Hossain and his wife leaving the country has been imposed.
