VerdictA Dhaka court has remanded three people for 10 days each over the seizure of Tk 180 million that Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) claim was wired from abroad to influence the Dec 30 polls.
The suspects- export-import firm and contractor United Corporation’s Managing Director Ali Haider, Amena Enterprises employee Alamgir Hossain and Joynul Abedin were produced before court on Wednesday (Dec 27).
Joynul Abedin is an ex-employee of ‘Hawa Bhaban’, the Banani building which had been the centre of power during the BNP-Jamaat regime.

On Tuesday (Dec 25), RAB arrested Haider with Tk 80 million in cash and Tk 100 million in cheque from the capital’s Motijheel’s City Center and later arrested Alamgir and Joynul in relation to the matter.
RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed said that the money had been wired from Dubai through Hundi to influence the upcoming polls.
