A Dhaka court has deferred the order of an arrest warrant against BNP chief Khaleda Zia to Jan 20, in a case alleging her of hurting religious sentiments and creating discord between religious groups.
Judge Ziaul Rahman of Dhaka Metropolitan Judge Court gave the order on Wednesday (Dec 26).
The plaintiff’s lawyer Abul Kalam told Bangla Tribune that so far the order on her arrest warrant has been deferred five times.
According to the case dossiers, during a program in Oct 14, 2014, the BNP chief slandered the ruling Awami League by calling it an anti-religious party.
She alleged that people of all religion were unsafe during the AL regime and that they have illegally occupied lands belonging to Hindu minorities and attacked them.
The documents read that not only had her comments hurt the religious sentiments but spread discord amongst Hindus and Muslims.
A case was filed with Shahbag police against the former prime minister in 2014 and the investigating officer, OC Jafar Ali Biswas submitted the probe report last June, seeking an arrest warrant against her.
Khaleda is already serving a 17 year prison term for embezzling foreign donations made to Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust.
