Govt warns schools on charging SSC candidates extra fees

Education Secretary Sohrab HossainThe Education Ministry has warned schools over charging extra fees to students who will take the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams next year.
“We have received complaints that several institutions are charging students extra on different grounds,” Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain said on Thursday (Nov 22).
Speaking at an event in the capital on the Anti Corruption Commission’s (ACC) founding anniversary, he said that the government is probing the allegations.
“If necessary, such institutions’ recognition and MPO coverage will be scrapped as well as legal actions will be taken,” said Hossain.
Speaking at the event, ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood said they were working with the ministry to curb corruption in the education sector. “The ACC will spare none; we have cracked down against irregularities and corruption in education.”
