A general view of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. BANGLA TRIBUNE/file photoThe High Court will give its decision on a petition filed over “fictitious cases” against activists of BNP and other political parties across the country on Sunday (Nov 25).
Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder scheduled its ruling on Thursday (Nov 22) after hearing arguments by petitioner’s counsel advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik.
The High Court on Tuesday (Nov 20) started hearing on the petition submitted on Sept 23.
Three pro-BNP lawyers, who are also accused in the cases, filed the petition, seeking the court's directives on the government to form a probe body to investigate the legitimacy of the around 4,000 cases.
The pro-BNP lawyers are: Advocate Khandker Mahbub, Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury, and Advocate Sanaullah Mia.
The petition said 4,000 fictitious cases had been filed across the country in September against leaders and activists of BNP and other political parties in order to create panic ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election.
Earlier on Oct 9, another HC bench delivered a split order on the same petition.
