The government will make relentless efforts to bring down child mortality rate to zero, says Health Minister Mohammed Nasim adding that the Awami League will take it as a new election pledge.
“The Awami League will include it in the manifesto for the upcoming elections,” he said on Wednesday while addressing a Unicef-organised discussion.
On the issue of newborn, who was declared dead by Dhaka Medical College Hospital but showed signs of life during burial, Nasim said he has instructed the probe body to file its findings within three days.
“Immediate actions will be taken against those responsible.”
On Monday, a newborn stirred up at the Azimpur graveyard hours after doctors had declared it was a stillborn. The baby girl was rushed to the Dhaka Shishu Hospital, the state-run specialized facility for children, where she died hours later.
Speaking at the discussion earlier, Director General for Health Prof Abul Kalam Azad said the ministry has ordered a separate inquiry on the issue.
He said the body has been ordered to file its findings within 15 days.
