US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marica Bernicat says she is leaving Dhaka with ‘great satisfaction’ with an intention to come back to the country again.
“I am departing with great satisfaction, not only personally but also the US embassy team has achieved in the development in democracy, prosperity and human dignity”, she said at her concluding press conference at the EMK centre in the capital Tuesday.
After serving in Dhaka for almost four years she will be departing on Friday, finishing her 37 years of diplomatic career.
Terming Bangladesh as a success story, she said, “I promise that I will tell the story wherever I go.”
Lauding the role of the government in handling Rohingya issue, she said, the United States commends Bangladesh for providing shelter to those distressed people.
Washington is also providing humanitarian and political support to resolve the crisis, she said.
About the attack on her motorcade recently, she said it is shocking.
“The attack like that one is rare, not only in Bangladesh also other part of the world and it is a shock.
“We will continue to ask for full investigation and those responsible for the attack being accountable.”
She said her government is still waiting for that report.
“The (Bangladesh) government has issued a formal public apology and number of private apologies for which I am grateful. But again, how did that happen, how did it happen in front of uniformed policemen and how to prevent from happening it again not just to an ambassador but to anyone.”
