A Supreme Court lawyer has served a legal notice to journalist Masuda Bhatti over her query on live television whether Mainul Hosein represents Jamaat-e-Islami in the political coalition the Jatiya Okiya Front.
Following the question, the former adviser to the military-installed caretaker administration called Bhatti a ‘debauchee’ during the talk show — Ekattor Journal— hosted by Mithila Farzana on Ekattor TV on the night of Oct 16.
Advocate Md Azizul Bashar sent the notice to Masuda by post on Monday (Oct 22).
The notice sought Bhatti’s explanation on claiming Mainul as a Jamaat representative.
It said Masuda should disclose the evidence within 24 hours upon receiving it to avoid legal actions.
She tried to demean the social dignity of Mainul, which is a criminal offense, reads the notice.
The lawyer requested the Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner to act within seven days under the Cyber Security Act in case Masuda failed to respond on time.
