A rape suspect has died in police custody in the capital, which the law enforcement described as a suicide.

Kawser, 19, an accused in a rape case with the Rupnagar police, died on Friday morning.

Doctors pronounced him dead after police took him to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital.

Kauser was arrested on Sept 26 in a rape case filed by the victim’s mother.

Rupnagar Police OC Sheikh Mohammad Shah Alam told Bangla Tribune, “Kauser tied a knot around his neck with his shirt which he was wearing with the iron bars of the lock-up gate.”

“He was rushed to the Hospital where he was pronounced dead,” Alam added.

Police was looking into the matter.

The rape victim was undergoing treatment at the One-Stop Crisis Center of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, police said.
