Transparency International Bangladesh’s (TIB) Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman has dubbed the Digital Security Act as draconian and gravely concerning.

“The law is not only a big obstacle to freedom of speech, but also to journalism and research work. The law may seem satisfactory in short term but it will obviously get suicidal in the long run,” he said on Wednesday (Sept 26).
Section 32 of the Digital Security Act re-imposes two notorious official security acts of the British colonial era which would take the country backwards, he added.
Dr Iftekharuzzaman was speaking at a human chain programme organised by TIB on occasion of International Right to Know Day at Dhaka University's Teacher-Student Centre (TSC).
Students from different schools, college and universities participated in the programme.
