Khaleda ZiaThe court hearing the Zia Charitable Trust graft case has fixed Sept 30 to give its decision on whether to hear the defence’s arguments or conclude the trial.
On Wednesday, the prosecution, Mosharraf Hossain Kajal has filed a petition seeking the court’s order to set the date of verdict delivery as the defence has not presented its arguments in the previous three hearings.
In addition to that, the petition asked the court to reject the defendant’s appeal for bail.

The court has also fixed the same day for its order on the no-confidence motions against the judge by two defendants, who also called the case to be adjourned for 20 working days.
After the orders on Wednesday, BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s counsel Masum Ahmed Talukder pleaded to the court for ‘a reasonable amount of time’.
“We will cooperate with the court by presenting our arguments. It’s better not to rush the trial when it’s so close to ending.”
The Anti Corruption Commission started the Zia Charitable Trust graft case in 2010 against the BNP chief and three others for embezzlement of Tk 31.5 million.
The others accused in the case are Khaleda’s former political secretary Harris Chowdhury, his former personal assistant Ziaul Islam Munna and former Dhaka City mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka’s personal assistant Monirul Islam Khan.
Harris has been absconding since the case was started while Munna and Monirul made appearances in court.
