I am a victim of injustice: Khaleda Zia

Khaleda Zia (File Photo)Alleging that she is the victim of injustice, incarcerated BNP chairperson, Khaleda Zia, said, “I am not well physically; my legs have swollen.”

"I cannot come to court, do what you feel, punish me as long as you want", she said on Wednesday to the special court where she is being tried over Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

The trial is being held at old Dhaka’s Nazimuddin Road jailhouse.

The Judge, Md Akhtaruzzaman of the special court scheduled Sep 12 and 13 for holding the next hearing of the case.

Khaleda was brought to the courtroom at 12:15pm on a wheelchair.

During the hearing, none of her legal counsels were present.

Sana Ullah Miah, one of Khaleda’s lawyers, said the court didn’t inform them about the trial proceeding on Wednesday.

The Anti-Corruption Commission had filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case against Khaleda and three others with Tejgaon Police Station in August 2011. According to the case documents, the former prime minister and three others abused their power and raised funds for the trust from unknown sources.
