Authorities have called off the excavation at a property in Dhaka’s Mirpur in search of ‘hidden treasure’.
The Dhaka district administration called off the digging on Thursday (Aug 16) after an experts’ team failed to detect the existence of any kind of metal beneath the soil, Dhaka district Executive Magistrate Tazwar Aklam said.
The police cordon surrounding the house on Road-16 (Block-C) of Mirpur Section-10 has been pulled out.
“No treasure is found. Law enforcers have been withdrawn as per the administration’s order.” Mirpur Model Police Station Inspector Arifur Rahman told Bangla Tribune.
On spot visit, workers were seen filling soil inside the house.
On Jul 10, Abu Taiyab, a resident of Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf, filed a report with Mirpur police 10 stating his relatives used to live in the house during the 1971 war, who buried at least 40 kg gold before leaving for Pakistan.
The property’s owner Manirul Alam said that he bought the house in 2010 from one Selim Reza through the Housing Department.
He also vacated the house as there were plans to demolish the house for constructing a new building.
On the night of Jul 12, several men, including Abu Taiyab, tried to enter the property claiming of treasure being buried under the house.
“On Jul 14, the property’s owner Manirul Islam also filed a general diary and sought police’s help to look into the issue.
Later, a team began digging the house on Jul 21.
