Supreme Court of Bangladesh. BANGLATRIBUNE/Sazzad HossainThe High Court has told the government to issue a gazette notification on guidelines to provide emergency services to victims of road accidents.
The health secretary has been given two months to implement the order by the bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Farid Ahmed on Wednesday.
Bangladesh Legal Aid Service Trust (Blast) and Syed Saifuddin Kamal filed a writ petition in 2016 as different hospitals in the country refuse to provide emergency treatment to the injured victims of road accidents.
After an initial hearing, the court issued a rule asking the hospital authorities to explain as to why they should not be directed to provide emergency health services to the injured victims in road crash.
The court also then asked health secretary to formulate guidelines for management of such emergency services and for measures to create public awareness of such services through print and electronic media.
The health ministry recently submitted the guidelines titled as “Sarak Durghatanay Ahoto Byaktir Joruri Swastha Seba Nishchitkoron or Sohayatakarir Surokkha Prodan Neetimala, 2018” to the HC through the attorney general’s office.
The court included some of its observation in the guidelines and ordered the government to issue a gazette notification.
