To save the country, Facebook may be shut down, said post, telecommunication and information technology minister, Mustafa Jabbar, at a meet organsied by telecommunication regulatory bodies of Asia Pacific region.
Depending on the circumstances, Internet may also be shut down, he added while talking to the media on 6 August afternoon.
To safeguard the security of the country, we must be ready to make sacrifices, said the minister.
He also said that the Internet speed may be slowed down in the future, depending the situation.
False rumours spread over the students’ protest on 4 August created an adverse impact on people’s minds and, on the same day, Internet speed was brought down by government order.
Meanwhile, from 8 till 10 August, the 18th Asia Pacific telecom policy and regulatory forum will be held in Bangladesh. Impact of advanced/emerging technology in digital economy will be highlighted at the event, where telecom operators, experts from different countries will take part.
