The move accelerated after a sudden wave of students protest erupted demanding safe road.
The cars queued up to Bhashantek from the BRTA gate on Sunday, the BRTA officials said adding, it is longer than that of usual time.
The number of clients has been increased for fitness checking, renewal, digital number plate as well as fresh licence application, said BRTA Assistant Director Ali Ahsan Milon.
Now 1200 to 1400 vehicles are being enlisted while earlier the number was 800 to 900 a day, he added.
Several government office vehicles also applied for fitness test on Sunday amid the growing tensions centring road accident demonstrations across the country.
Golam Rahman, a car owner, told Bangla Tribune that he came to get the clearance unless the police or students could harass him on the road.
BRTA Deputy Director Engineer Masud Alam said that a special drive is being operated against the vehicles without fitness.
We are trying our best to bring discipline on the roads. No faulty vehicle will operate, the high BRTA official stressed.
On Jul 29, two students were killed by a speeding bus which was on a race with another for passengers on Airport road.
Following the incident, a huge surge of students raised against the reckless driving and protestations for safe roads.
