Petrobangla has formed a probe committee to investigate the disappearance of 3 lakh tonnes of stones worth Tk. 55 crore from Madhyapara hard-rock company.
A three member committee has been formed with Jabed Chowdhury, acting MD of the company, as the head.
The other members are: Petrobangla managers, Belayet Hossain, Anwar Hossain Khan and deputy MD of the hard rock mine, Rajeun Nabi.
The MD of Madhyapara Granite Mining Company is SM Nurul Aurangzeb, who is also one of the accused in Boropukuria coal scam. He was questioned by ACC while Petrobangla was criticized for giving him a 42 day leave to perform Hajj.
While ACC says that 1 lakh 44 thousand tonnes of coal vanished from Boropukuria mine, a discrepancy in the account of 3 lakh 60 thousand tonnes of stone has emerged in Madhyapara Granite Mining Company.
A proposal was made by the mining company to wipe out the record of the missing stones with the explanation that the stones have caved in.
An investigation committee found evidence of stones caving in but discrepancy has been noted in records of extracted stones. The total stone reserve in this mine is 174 million tonnes and stones have been extracted from this mine for a decade.
