A group of unruly people has attacked at East West University located in Rampura in the capital.
The incident took place Monday morning, said university authorities.
Public Relations Officer of the university Mohiuddin told Bangla Tribune, “Some youths started to pelt bricks and stones from outside the campus gate at 10 to 10:30 in the morning.”
They ran away when the students chased them, he said.
When the students staged demonstration outside the campus, the police started to lob tear shell on them, he added.
“They got in the campus and staged demonstration inside. We are not allowing anybody to get in without ID card. The police have taken position outside,” Mohiuddin said.
Ainun Nanar, a student of the university, said, “The situation was normal in the morning. Suddenly, about 10:15 stones and bricks were started to pelt and security officials immediately closed the main gate.”
I came to know several students were injured, she said.
Some students, seeking anonymity said, the attackers were activists of Chatro League and Jubo League.
