Commerce Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun has outlined barriers to foreign direct investment (FDI) in Bangladesh.
“There are 16 obstacles to FDI in the country,” he told the parliament on Monday (Jan 20) responding to a query from lawmaker Md Mozaffar Hossain from Jamalpur 5 constituency.
The minister said that barriers to FDI are lack of sufficient land for setting up factories, problems with obtaining power and gas, poor infrastructure, lack of timely credit, shortage of raw material, lack of skilled manpower, problems in product marketing, lack of entrepreneurs with sufficient knowledge and experience, free-market economy, uneven market competition, receipt of clearance from different authorities, problems in taxation, policy issues, high lending rate, and gas problems.
The government has taken initiatives to solve the problems, he added.
