No cases will be filed under the Road Transport Act 2018 for another week until Nov 14, the Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said.
He made the statement while attending a discussion meeting at Bangladesh Road Transport Association (BRTA)'s headquarters in Banani on Thursday (Nov 7), according to media reports.
The minister said: "We have decided to extend the awareness-raising campaign for another week in order to make the new transport act more effective.
"The new traffic rules and regulations under the Road Transport Act 2018 are going to be implemented soon," he added.
Earlier, Quader said he hoped to bring disciplines and reduce road accidents following the proper implementation of the Road Transport Act 2018.
On Nov 1, the new Road and Transport Act went into effect following a notification issued by the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry.
The Road Transport Bill 2018 was passed by parliament on Sept 19, 2018. It kept a provision of maximum five years' jail for any death or serious injuries caused by reckless or negligent driving.
